Dyker Heights Christmas Lights
– Brooklyn, NY –
We all know that this year the holidays look different. I was so excited to decorate our home and have to admit starting much earlier than usual.
There are so many fun things to do in NYC around the holidays. However, this year many of my favorite ways to celebrate – such as the Radio City Christmas Spectacular – are closed down. My husband and I were looking for safe Christmas activity to enjoy. It was my very first time in Dyker Heights. Walking around the Dyker Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn was just a wonderful experience.
The light displays were impressive, and the atmosphere in the street was electric and filled with Christmas cheers. On the sidewalk, the amazed pedestrians gathered (safely) to take pictures and sung Christmas carols as they walk down the streets. As we wandered around, we passed by cars cruising slowly, with occupants belting out to popular Christmas songs.
The Dyker Heights is a popular attraction that is usually listed next to the famous Rockefeller center tree of the Union Square Holiday Market.
Where is it ?
The best displays can be found between 11th to 13th Ave. and 83rd to 86th St in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. This year, due to the pandemic not all the houses are decorated but there is still plenty to see and enjoy.
How to get there ?
The closest train station is the D train – 79 street. There is about 15 minutes walk to get to the displays. It is a popular spot so keep in mind that there is a lot of traffic if you are thinking of driving.
Even some of the cars riding around the neighborhood embodied the meaning of the expression “deck the halls”. A real show stopper!
There is so much to see. We walked around for a couple of hours, and there was so much more to explore. The Dyker height Christmas light is a holiday tradition we’ll just have to add to our usual list.
